Summary:

Have you ever wanted to sit on the nose of an anticline, or stand astride a fault line with one foot in the Precambrian and the other in the Quaternary? If you have, or even if you haven’t, you will find plenty to interest you on this excursion. We will be exploring the coastline southwards from Marino Rocks, which covers the lower part of the Marinoan type section – the Marinoan being the period following the Sturtian which we visited in our excursion to Sturt Gorge in May. The rocks which we will see were deposited in shallow Late Precambrian seas and exhibit a range of sedimentary structures as well as faults, folds, ancient soil horizons – and more….

Members Trevor and Brenda Westlake, and Penny Rendell, will also discuss some of the conservation measures which they have been undertaking in the area.

Please note that the excursion will involve some walking along a bouldery shoreline, and ascents and descents of steep wooden stairs to reach the points of interest. Come well prepared with strong footwear and appropriate clothing for the day – check the weather forecast beforehand. BRING LUNCH AND DRINKS. We will have comfort stops before setting out along the shore, at lunchtime and at the end of the excursion but please note that the shore itself is exposed and provides little opportunity for privacy.
